RELATIVE PRONOUNS

Study the following explanation on video. It's very helpful.

Now watch this video, it's all in English and includes a few exercises. Good luck!

BLOQUE IV. DESCRIBES INFORMACIÓN SOBRE OBJETOS, ACTIVIDADES Y PERSONAS

When we describe people, places or objects we can add more information to the description by using "relative pronouns".

Look at the examples:

Soccer is good for you.
Soccer is a popular sport.

Soccer, which is a popular sport, is good for you.

English is the language that I like.

Note: We use which or that for objects.

EL CONDOR PASA

This is a classic song by Simon and Garfunkel. The grammatical structure helps us reinforce the topics we are currently covering in class. Enjoy!

Here are the Lyrics to the song:

"El Condor Pasa (If I Could)"

I'd rather be a sparrow than a snail
Yes I would, if I could, I surely would
I'd rather be a hammer than a nail
Yes I would, if I only could, I surely would

Away, I'd rather sail away
Like a swan that's here and gone
A man gets tied up to the ground
He gives the world it's saddest sound
Its saddest sound

I'd rather be a forest than a street
Yes I would, if I could, I surely would
I'd rather feel the earth beneath my feet

Yes I would, if I only could, I surely would

This is the Spanish translation:

Preferiría ser un gorrión que un caracol
Sí, lo haría
Si pudiera
Seguramente lo haría

Preferiría ser un martillo que un clavo
Sí, lo haría
Si tan sólo pudiera
Seguramente lo haría

Lejos, prefiero navegar lejos
Como un cisne que está aquí y se han ido
Un hombre se ata a la tierra
Y le da al mundo su sonido más triste

Su sonido más triste

Preferiría ser un bosque de una calle
Sí, lo haría
Si pudiera
Seguramente lo haría

Preferiría sentir la tierra bajo mis pies
Sí, lo haría
Si tan sólo pudiera

Seguramente lo haría

DISCOVERING GRAMMAR, PAGE 6

The Second Conditional in English refers to the future and is used to express imaginary situations or to give advice. We use it to express a certain cause (condition) in the future and its possible effect (result). However, there is no real possibility that this cause (condition) will happen.

In order to express the future cause (condition), we use the verb in simple past tense. To express the future effect (result) we use the modal verb "would" plus the base form of the verb.

DAYDREAMING

The conversation on page 2 presents different ideas about imaginary situations. Carol and Tommy are talking about things they would love to do if they were the president.

Their ideas are the following:

TOMMY:

CAROL:
